Radiosynoviorthesis

Radiosynoviorthesis is an option offered by Nuclear Medicine for the local treatment of synovial inflammation (synovitis), through the intra-articular administration of radiotracer.

Its objective is to reduce and control joint inflammation and its manifestations (pain, repeated joint effusion), without acting directly against the cause of the disease, as well as reducing the use of anti-inflammatories.

A large part of the joints can be treated using this technique, especially those that are beyond the control of the patient’s usual medication.

It is indicated for the local treatment of active synovitis of any cause: rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis), pigmented villonodular synovitis, haemophilia, activated osteoarthritis…

Instructions

Scans usually take about 3 hours. When you arrive, they will administer a contrast and until it takes effect, you cannot perform the test, which lasts between 10 and 15 minutes. While waiting for the reabsorption of the contrast, the patient can wait in one of our rooms or go for a walk around the center.
